Education

Drawing on our vast experience as teachers and lecturers from primary, secondary and university level, we have developed a comprehensive range of educational lectures/recitals and inset courses for teachers.

As with our concerts, we present programmes in a manner appropriate to the audience and always perform in costume using 60 or more early folk instruments.

We cover:

Key Stage 1
A specially designed workshop on instruments covering the sound module, production of sound, materials used to make instruments. There's plenty of audience participation.

Key Stage 2 - Tudors
A cross-curricular presentation on manners, buildings, general historical background, Henry VIII as a musician, all performed interactively, including gory stories! Where possible we can also teach some early dances.

Key Stage 3 - Medieval for Year 7
Given in medieval costume, we offer a cross-curricular, interactive workshop covering a wide spectrum of medieval life from crusades, pilgrims, minstrels and the plague through to Henry VIII.

Universities and Colleges
We offer workshops for colleges following themes as requested (e.g. QTS courses, Arts weeks, historical societies, performing arts groups). These can be given as a pre-concert workshop.

Inset Courses
We have given frequent inset courses to entire inset days and provided new ideas on the Tudors and medieval people.

The above workshops are available for audiences up to 100 or to single year groups. Our sole requirements are a performance space plus three two metre tables to put the instruments on. We can give two or three performances in schools per day.

Bookings and details of fees available on request. For details about some of our instruments, click here.
